What You Can Do to Protect Children from Environmental Risks?

Tip's to protect children from lead poisoning!

Get kids tested for lead by their doctor or health care provider if you suspect they have come in contact with lead paint.

Test your home for lead paint hazards if it was built before 1978.

Use extreme caution when sanding or grinding painted surface's that may have lead base paint.  Sanding will cause lead dust to become an airborn contaminant.

Wash children's hands before they eat; wash bottles, pacifiers, and toys often.

Check children's toys for lead base bi-products.  Many toys manufactured outside the United States may contain lead!

Wash floors and window sills to protect kids from dust and peeling paint contaminated with lead, especially in older homes.

Run cold water until it becomes as cold as it can get. Use only cold water for drinking, cooking, and making baby formula.

Mercury Is A Serious Danger In Your Home or Office

Mercury is used in many products that are in your home or office at this very moment. Do I have your attention?

Mercury is in a variety of manufacturing processes and products such as thermometers and fluorescent bulbs including CFL bulbs, you know those cute little swirly bulbs.  They are great until you drop one on your kitchen floor.

If you improperly dispose of products with mercury in them, they may break and release mercury vapors which are harmful to human and ecological health.

    • Dispose of used mercury-containing items properly.
    • Clean up mercury spills properly - never vaccum a spill. DO NOT allow children to help you clean up the spill.
    • Replace mercury thermometers with digital thermometers.
    • Don't let kids handle or play with mercury.
    • Never heat or burn mercury.
    • Contact your state or local health or environment department if mercury is spilled.  If ingested seek medical treatment immediately.
